I keep hearing/reading that although the top levels of the Mets farm system are lacking in high upside talent, there is some interesting talent percolating in the lower levels. One of the arms that garnered some attention last year was Daison Acosta, a righthanded pitcher who signed with the Mets for $70,000 during the 2016-17 international signing period.

The Dominican born 19 year old already sits in the low 90’s with his fastball, and has plenty of room in his frame to project additional velocity gains as he fills out. On top of that, he performed well as a teenager in the GCL in 2017, and his name has already surfaced as one to watch. You can see video of Acosta pitch here.

As far as 2018, Daison Acosta will likely open the season for a short season affiliate, either Kingsport or Brooklyn. Whether that is the case, or he shows enough this spring to break camp with the Fireflies, Daison Acosta is definitely one of the names to watch this summer in the Mets lower levels.
